Before time as we know it began, God existed as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
They existed in a spiritual realm. In the spiritual realm, time itself, doesn’t exist in the same way, as we know it, here in the physical realm.
Time itself was a part of the creation. It was created for the physical plane of existence.
Where we are now, was once only a dark void. Then God spoke “Let there be light.” And creation began.
No physical person can fully understand God, with the exception of his only begotten Son. The Son was with the Father in the beginning, so he fully understands God the Father. He also understands the creation because thru him all things were created.
The Son has explained to the we, the created, that God the Father is Spirit. So therefore our connection to him is the Holy Spirit. The only way that we, the created, can connect to God the creator, is thru the Holy Spirit.
